With a year as difficult as 2020 has been, one of the things to look forward to is celebrating those people and companies that did exceptional things in the face of adversity.

First off, congratulations to all our portfolio companies who jumped into action to support learners, educators, and institutions as COVID forced closures in March. We wrote a blog about the amazing work many of our founders did. You can find that HERE.

And while it’s been a slog of a year, watching the education community rally to support every single learner forced into distance learning has been humbling. We couldn’t be more proud of this community and certainly couldn’t be more proud of our founders for the fantastic work they did, impact they’ve had, and progress they’ve made.

2020 was a year of persistence. Now help us celebrate some of the K-12, Higher Ed, and Workforce startups that did amazing things in 2020.

Authess: Authess was acquired by Elsevier/RELX in early 2020. The acquisition was an opportunity to scale and focus Authess’ solution in the high-impact domain of nursing and health sciences. Together they’ll be expanding Elsevier nursing education solutions with the Authess assessment platform. Read more

CareAcademy: CareAcademy had an impressive 2020 with an quick $9.5M raise, stead hiring to expand key sales and support functions, and CEO and Founder, Helen Adeosun was listed on Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list for her work in health care trainings and the coursework. Read more here

Entri: Entri raised an impressive Pre Series A round of $3.1 million to scale development of its Indian test prep software. Their vernacular app focusing on training for competitive job examinations and gained +3 million users in 2020. Entri was also listed on HolonIQ’s 2020 India and South Asia EdTech 100 list. Mindprint Learning: Mindprint was awarded an NSF Phase I grant to study how their profiles and strategies improve middle school math outcomes. They also were a GSV Cup top 10 finalist. Read here

Solfeg.io: Solfeg.io, one of our most recent portfolio companies, had a big year winning the MidemLab 2020 for their solution that simplifies music teaching in schools and inspires practicing at home. They were also listed to HolonIQ’s 2020 Nordic-Baltic EdTech 50 list. Read here

Additionally, Education Modified, Listenwise, Sutori, and Unruly Studios reported strong revenue and user growth.
